It has been one whole year since I started changing my lifestyle and transitioning to low-waste! It has been such a journey and I have learned so much from my experiences so far.

I started off by refusing straws and plastic bags but I have blossomed! I try to purchase foods that are local, in season, in bulk, Imperfect, or surplus that would have been thrown away otherwise! I have switched to plant-based, buy fair-trade, and focus on searching for things made from organic, natural, raw, and ethical materials.

According to Municipal Solid Waste of the Environmental Protection Agency in one year, one person uses:

-6.75 pounds of plastic plates and cups

-72.99 pounds of durable plastic

-28.22 pounds of other nondurable plastics

-17.77 pounds of plastic bottles

-24.27 pounds of plastic bags and wraps

-28.98 pounds of plastic packaging

That totals 178.98 pounds of JUST PLASTIC

I cannot claim to have been completely zero-waste this whole year, but I feel pretty confident in saying that I saved about 150 pounds of plastic from ending up in the landfill. (I could go on and on about how much glass, metal, cardboard, paper, and food gets thrown away but this post would get much too long.)

I have been making mindful choices for a whole year! I have been able to focus on my own health and well-being, as well as those around me, and most importantly - our Mother Earth.

I WANT to brag about it, and I am going to! This is something I can feel so proud of myself for and I am confident - although I am just one person - I am making a difference.

What are you doing to take care of your Mother?

Take the low-waste one day, one week, one month, one year, one LIFETIME challenge! We only have ONE planet, and we need to take care of it.

Join me.

xoxo
